Second Funding Period for CRC "Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics"

On July 1, 2016 the second funding period of the CRC 109 started. The Faculty II congratulates the chair, Professor Bobenko and all project heads on their great success!

At the end of May 2016, the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced the extension. The Collaborative Research Center on “Discretization in Geometry and Dynamics” based at the Institute of Mathematics of Faculty II has been extended for an additional period of 4 years.

During the third funding period around 7 million Euros will go to the CRC in order to continue their research on the discretization of differential geometry and dynamics. In both fields of mathematics, the objects under investigation are usually governed by differential equations. Generally, the term "discretization" refers to any procedure that turns a differential equation into difference equations involving only finitely many variables, whose solutions approximate those of the differential equation.

The film "The Discrete Charme of Geometry" about the work of the CRC will be shown during the European Congress of Mathematics on 19th July in the Audimax of TU Berlin.
