New Junior Professor at the Institute of Mathematics

Mario Kummer works in real algebraic geometry, studying systems of polynomial equations and inequalities. The aim of his research is to gain a higher understanding of objects of real and algebraic geometry and to investigate connections to combinatorics and optimization. Since January 2018 he has been junior professor at the Institute of Mathematics at the TU Berlin. He is pleased if his field of work, which is incidentally a subfield of algebraic geometry, becomes better known at the TU Berlin and beyond and is helped to a greater understanding. At the TU Berlin he is thematically most closely connected with Peter B├╝rgisser and his research group. But there are also connecting lines for convex geometry or for optimization, as represented by Martin Henk or Michael Joswig. He completed his dissertation on "From Hyperbolic Polynominals to Real Fibered Morphisms"; with Claus Scheiderer at the University of Konstanz with the distinction "summa cum laude". He then worked as a PostDoc at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Natural Sciences (Leipzig) in Bernd Sturmfels' group.
