New Emmy Noether Research Group in Mathematics!

The Faculty II is proud to welcome Myfanwy Evans as leader of an Emmy Noether Research Group at the Institute of Mathematics. Myfanwy Evans got her PhD at the Department of Applied Mathematics, at the Australian National University in Canberra. Before coming to Berlin she was a Humboldt postdoctoral fellow in the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Erlangen. Her general interest is at the boundary of geometry and topology with soft matter physics. In Erlangen, she worked on various projects combining geometry with soft matter and statistical physics. In Berlin, she will continue this research through the investigation of mesoscale geometry and entanglement in soft and biological materials, with a particular focus on hyperbolic tilings, triply periodic minimal surfaces, energy minimising forms and applications in skin cells, block copolymers and liquid crystals.
