Faculty II mourns of Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Detlef Krüger

Detlef Krüger (1937-2019), Professor of Mathematics at the TU Berlin for many years, died in Berlin on 16 April 2019. Mr. Krüger studied mathematics at the TU Berlin from 1957 to 1964, received his doctorate in 1968 from Prof. Karl Jaeckel and was appointed professor in 1969. Until his retirement, he was a member of the Numerical Mathematics/ Functional Analysis working group of the Mathematics Department, later the Institute of Mathematics. At the TU Berlin, Detlef Krüger was particularly involved in the development of libraries and the improvement of the supply of literature. For a long time he was chairman of the permanent commission for libraries. From 1971 to 2003, Detlef Krüger headed the Mathematische Fachbibliothek (MFB). In 1982, he accompanied the move of the library from the main building to the specially designed rooms in the new mathematics building. The systematic listing of the literature according to the international Mathematics Subject Classification goes back to his work and is still widely acknowledged today. Even after his retirement in 2003, Mr. Krüger remained associated with the Mathematische Fachbibliothek. For more than 15 years he ensured the continuous development of the content of the new acquisitions and continued to support the development of the collection. The Faculty II and in particular the Mathematische Fachbibliothek and the Institute of Mathematics commemorate Detlef Krüger with gratitude and esteem. We will preserve his memory. Our sympathies go out to his wife and relatives.
