New Heisenberg Fellow in Mathematics


The Faculty II warmly welcomes Christian Stump as the new Heisenberg Fellow at the Institute of Mathematics as of 1st October 2017. Christian Stump got his PhD from the Universität Wien for his dissertation titled “q,t-Fuß-Catalan Numbers for Finite Reflection Groups”. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) in Montréal, at the Universität Hannover and Freie Universität Berlin. Before coming to TU Berlin he was a substitute professor for Algebra at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg.

Christian Stump works at the crossroads of combinatorics, algebra and geometry. During his Heisenberg fellowship, he plans to investigate noncrossing phenomena in algebra and geometry, namely in the theory of cluster algebras, in Schubert calculus, in (tropical) Grassmannians, in the representation theory of hereditary algebras, and in the invariant/representation theory of unitary reflection groups. For all these research areas there exist structures that are classified according to the famous Cartan-Killing classification. This makes it possible to search for noncrossing phenomena within a priori unrelated contexts and to develop intertwining and intriguing relations based on these phenomena.

With the Heisenberg programme the DFG addresses scientists who already fulfill all requirements for tenures professorships. The aim of the funding is to enable them to continue with key research topics and thereby increase their scientific reputation while preparing for a future scientific leadership position. The funding initially runs for a period of three years and can be extended for a further two years.
