Global Responsibility
Technische Universität Berlin is aware of its global and social responsibility. It promotes the transfer of knowledge and good practices to socially relevant target groups in Germany and abroad as part of its central vision of providing a response to global challenges.

TU Berlin contributes to developing common solutions to global challenges through research cooperations and education programs and by developing and expanding capacity building at universities in the Global South. It supports development in the aspiring information societies of the Global South, where it is also establishing itself as a partner.

TU Berlin also places great value on ensuring academic freedom and supporting scholars at risk in its cooperation with Global South partners.

Through its Strategy on Global Responsibility, adopted in 2019, TU Berlin is committed to pursuing its global responsibility with even greater conviction in the future and seeks to strengthen the following aspects of its cooperation with partners in the Global South(for more details, please refer to the list of measures):

  • Inter- and transdisciplinary networks
  • Capacity building and international collaboration
  • Financing
  • Bridging function of international (junior) scholars
  • Communicating the importance of globally responsible academic cooperation

TU Berlin pursues many of the goals of its Strategy on Global Responsibility working together with its partners, including the German-West African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention (G-WAC) and the Transnational Centre for Just Transitions in Energy, Climate and Sustainability (TRAJECTS), both funded by the DAAD.

In implementing its Strategy on Global Responsibility, TU Berlin works closely with the Berlin University Alliance's Berlin Center for Global Engagement (BCGE) and is a member of the OBREAL Global.

Building bridges instead of Brain Drain

In its strategy for global responsibility, the TU Berlin is committed to reducing the dreaded "Brain-Drain", especially in the so-called global south. The bridging function of scientists from these parts of the world is particularly important. In this article, three researchers give their recommendations.

Scholars@Risk

TU Berlin supports international students and researchers who are no longer able to work in their own countries as a result of violence, restrictions on research, or persecution. By doing so, we contribute to academic freedom for researchers from crisis and conflict regions.
