The Chair of Advanced Ceramic Materials was granted seed funding for cooperation with partners in the Global South in 2019 to initiate cooperation with three Uzbek partners, the Uzbekistan-Japan Innovation Center of Youth, the National University of Uzbekistan, and the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent. The collaboration aims at conducting joint research on photocatalysis, as well as capacity building in solar energy and photocatalysis. It shall contribute to SDG 4 Quality Education, 6 Clean Water and Sanitation and 7 Affordable and Clean Energy.

At the end of August 2019, Prof. Zukhra C. Kadirova from the Uzbekistan-Japan Innovation Center of Youth and Prof. Shahlo S. Daminova from the National University of Uzbekistan visited the Chair of Advanced Ceramic Materials at TU Berlin for a week. Likewise, Dr. Mirabbos Khujamberdiev from the TU Berlin Chair visited educational and research institutions in Uzbekistan in September 2019. During their meetings, they worked together on the scientific potential of developing solar materials contributing to Uzbekistan’s socio-economic development. During his stay in Tashkent, Dr. Khujamberdiev from TU Berlin gave seminar lectures introducing the educational and scientific excellence of solar materials at the Chair of Advanced Ceramic Materials.

Available opportunities to develop a strong research collaboration were discussed, as well as project ideas for collaborative applications for third party funding defined. Additionally, the Chair of Advanced Ceramic Materials is interested in hosting young researchers, postdocs, and PhD students with external financial support (e.g. DAAD, Volkswagen Foundation, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, etc.).
