Seed Funding for Cooperation with Partners in the Global South

Since 2019, the Technische Universität Berlin launches call for proposals for Seed Funding for Cooperation with Partners in the Global South. Funds are available for scientific staff of TU Berlin, who aim at initiating and further strengthening collaboration together with partners in the Global South.

The seed funding funds proposals which address the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) working on responses to global challenges, and which are in line with the TU Berlin’s Strategy on Global Responsibility. The calls seeks to attract project ideas aiming at: capacity building in the Global South, transfer of knowledge / technology / skills, joint knowledge creation with partners in the Global South, or/and encouraging exchange and networking between Departments. The participation of young researchers at TU Berlin and young researchers of universities from regions of the Global South is particularly welcome.

Project ideas shall result in the preparation of one or several proposals for third-party funding, and thus contribute to the international cooperation between partners in the Global South and TU Berlin.

The following activities can be funded up to the maximum of 10.000 EUR per applicant:

  • Short research visits to partners and,
  • Short research visits of partners to TU Berlin,
  • Preparatory workshops for the development of project ideas / the elaboration of the project proposal.

Depending on the project proposal, partners can be Higher Education Institutions, research centers, NGOs or public institutions. Companies can be included as associate partners, however, travel expenses from company staff are not eligible for funding.

The application deadline for the 2020 call ended on April 6th 2020. On the page Seed Funding Global South: Funded projects we provide an overview of the projects selected for funding in 2020 as well as of projects implemented in 2019.
