Transition to restricted presence without in-presence teaching to further contain the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2

The Dean's Office and the team of the Faculty-Service-Center will continue primarily working from home. Administrative activities that require personal presence on-site will be organized in an adequate manner after the transition into restricted presence mode and in strict consideration of the hygiene rules and protective measures of TU Berlin and Robert-Koch-Institut.

It still will be crucial to reduce social contacts in private, professional and public realms to contain further infections in the future. The Faculty-Service-Center continues to be closed for public access and direct customer contact until further notice. We will gladly be of assistance to you via e-mail or telephone!

For submitting documents or other mail, please use the TU in-house mail. We kindly ask you to use the mailboxes in Villa Bell on the ground floor only in urgent cases.

The legal basis for the transition into restricted presence mode is the "Verordnung über erforderliche Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung der Ausbreitung des neuartigen Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Berlin" changed and issued by the Berlin Senate on 7 May 2020.

Portrait Prof. Dr. Franziska Hess

Franziska Hess has been a junior professor for chemical catalysis at TU Berlin since April 2020. Her area of ​​work lies in the modeling of heterogeneous catalysts and catalyst stability. She completed her dissertation on “DFT-based Kinetic Monte Carlo Simulations of oxidation reactions over the RuO2 (110) model catalyst surface” in 2015 under the supervision of Herbert Over at the Institute for Physical Chemistry at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Subsequently, she worked with Bilge Yildiz's group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to investigate the driving force of the degradation of cathode materials in solid oxide fuel cells. In 2019 she received funding from the Liebig scholarship from the Fund of the Chemical Industry, which enabled her to deepen her research at RWTH Aachen University in the field of modeling catalyst stability. The goal of her research is to develop theoretical models for the long-term stability of catalyst systems and suitable descriptors that are able to predict catalysts that are both active and stable. Another focus is the optimization of existing simulation methods for chemical kinetics by taking into account the influence of lateral interactions between adsorbed molecules.

Since April 1, 2020 he represents the Chair "Mathematics - Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Real World Processes" at the Institute of Mathematics.
