The CRC 910 is successful: DFG Approves Third Phase

Prof. Dr. Sabine Klapp and Managing Director Roland Aust are pleased that the CRC 910 "Control of Nonlinear Systems" is being funded for another four years.

The CRC 910 "Control of Self-Organising Nonlinear Systems: Theoretical Methods and Application Concepts" will receive over eight million euros for research on innovative control strategies and methods for the third funding period within the next four years. The speaker of the Collaborative Research Centre is Prof. Dr. Sabine Klapp, who heads the Chair of Computer Simulations and Theory of Complex Fluids at the Institute of Theoretical Physics.
The Collaborative Research Centre concentrates on dissipative, nonlinear dynamic systems far from thermal equilibrium. Such systems are widely used in physics, chemistry and biology. A characteristic feature of such systems is self-organization, i.e. the spontaneous formation of temporal, spatial or spatio-temporal structures. The aim of the Collaborative Research Centre is to generate and control such self-organizing dissipative structures in a targeted manner, for example to optimize certain material properties. The third funding period will focus on the control of dynamics in quantum nanostructures and topological quantum information systems, the control of complex and active non-equilibrium fluids and the control of excitable media such as heart tissue and macroscopic brain networks.
In the third funding period, the scientific subprojects will be accompanied by an integrated research training group "Design and Control of Complex Systems" headed by Prof. Dr. Holger Stark, Dr. Alexander Carmele (both TU Berlin) and Prof. Dr. Alexander Mielke from the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS). In addition to WIAS, the Freie Universität Berlin, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Staatliche Universität Saratow (Russia) are cooperation partners of the CRC.
