The Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences
– considers itself as a central body of the TU Berlin. It sonsists
of the fields Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in both research and
education.
Corresponding with its three fields the faculty
offers degree programmes with characteristics specific to the TU
Berlin. Alongside classical Mathematics it is possible to study
Technomathematics and Business Mathematics. Besides the basic
research-oriented degrees the studies in Physics and Chemistry each
offer an application-oriented course of studies with technical
characteristics.
Auxiliary to the education for its own
fields the Faculty II is responsable for laying the foundations in
Mathematics and Natural Sciences needed by students from other
fields for their studies, most notably in bachelor degree
programmes. Each year more than 10.000 students from over 20
programmes participate in courses offered by this faculty.
Over the last years the school has reoriented its research to
alliances going beyond its boundaries such as DFG-Research Center
MATHEON [2], Exzellenzcluster "Unifying Concepts in
Catalysis" [3], „Berlin Mathematical School“ [4] and Sfb 787
"Semiconductors - Nanophotonics: Materials, Models,
Components" [5] and Sfb/TR109 „Discretization in Geometry and
Dynamics“ [6].
